South Mountains State Park

Connelly Springs, Nc

If you are in the NC area you should definitely visit this state park! It was absolutely beautiful, especially the fall time. We did the High Shoals Falls Loop Trail. It was 2.4 mile loop. It took us about 3 hours because we had a toddler and took a lot of breaks. I’m also 4.5 months pregnant so my pace was slower than usual 😆.

This loop was quite intense! The stairs were steep and we were out of breath. You’ll need good hiking shoes! It has been a while since I last hiked so I was out of shape.
These leaves were just so beautiful! It felt like we were walking through a live painting. I imagine the spring time would be also be just as gorgeous.
The crew! My 3 year old did a pretty good job, he walked about 20% of the time 🤣. There were lots of tree stumps hiding under the leaves so be careful!
More steps! 🤪 I had a great workout though.
These stairs lead to one of the few waterfalls.
He got the best seat, lucky boy.

Notes From The Park

• No parking fees

• Wear proper hiking shoes. Lots of hidden stumps that you can trip on.

• DO NOT use the porta potties, I repeat DO NOT if you plan on eating for the next 72 hours. There is a proper restroom a little further into the trail!!!

• Camping and horses are allowed.

• Lots of different trail options to choose from.

• Parking is not bad if you come early, it gets crowded on the weekends and you will have to park a little further down depending on which trail you’re taking.
